“Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, she turned into a butterfly”. These words were the inspiration for Michelle Blackburn, breast cancer survivor to embrace her scars and transform them into works of art.
I am proud to help breast cancer survivors express their experience artistically through body art. These transformations are captured by our photographer, Izabela Pioro and have become part of a large collection of images that we are happy to have been able to display in Northern Ontario as well as share in book form. This project continues to reach survivors, and I continue to be busy at work using their stories and sources of hope as inspiration for each individual work of art that will turn scars into artwork!
